About Us

An international academic society

The Sociedad de Estudios Filónicos brings together specialists from around the world to study the work of Philo of Alexandria, a first-century Jewish philosopher whose thought is central to understanding the Hellenistic-Roman world.

Born out of the sustained work of researchers from Argentina, Europe and North America, the Society aims to foster collaborative networks, promote scholarly publication and organise academic meetings of international standing.

Philo of Alexandria occupies a singular position in the history of ancient thought: his philosophy integrates Jewish tradition, Platonic thought and Greek rhetoric into a corpus that continues to be the subject of active research in classical philology, ancient philosophy and biblical studies.
